Song About Women's Reproductive Rights (Lyrics Video)

Womansplain (Demo)

Why? The government has no laws restricting men's rights about their health care, so the same must apply to women's health care rights.

About A Man (Selfie Music VIdeo)

About A Man started as an experiment: what if I composed a song using only midi instruments? First was the bass line, then cello and drum kit. After the lyrics were complete, I knew the song needed a final kick - electric guitar scales! My electric guitar - 26 or 27 years old - is basic and busted. I never learned to play scales beyond the simplest, easiest stuff, but it was important to me now to play it all with my fingers on keyboard - same with the bass, cello, and drum kit. I love the result so much that moving forward, I'm hanging up my acoustic guitar for future songs. Instead I'll be starting with the bass line. I've never considered myself to be a musician; I only play my guitar when I'm writing and recording a song. Back in college, I played my acoustic and electric most every day, but until a couple years ago, I hadn't played in 20 years. Composing songs using only midi instruments is all I want to do now. This is the way. If you like what you hear, like and subscribe to my YouTube channel for future songs and selfie videos! I'm taking the next several weeks off to enjoy the summer (which was supposed to have started Memorial Day weekend...and then I wrote this song and made a video). Stay tuned!

PHOTO-DOCUMENTARY SONG PROJECT: PINE RIDGE SONG

In 2011 I had the privilege of traveling to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, with a group from Project Lighthouse. Their mission was to assist the families in the most desolate living situations on the reservation, winterizing their homes and simply spending time with them to let them know there are people out there who care. As documentary photographer, my purpose was to capture what I saw, medium format camera in hand, loaded with black & white film. Our group spent most of our time with two Oglala Lakota families. Their love for each other in the midst of their circumstances was infectious. The children played with that free-spirited nature so uniquely belonging to them. Everyone I met allowed me into their homes to photograph their living conditions on the reservation, with the hopes of my sharing the images with others. This original song and video represent my latest method of doing just that.

PHOTO-DOCUMENTARY SONG PROJECT: WALK ON BY

“Walk On By” is the first song I wrote. As the inspiration for my song, I present to you some of the people I encountered, walking the streets of Miami, medium format camera in hand. All names are real. It’s amazing how much people are hungering to share about their lives if someone is willing to listen. Please enjoy my graduate photography thesis project, “Scratch the Surface,” to the tune of my song, “Walk On By.” (My urban landscape photos included in the video are primarily of the RiNo District, Denver, CO 2007.)
